LG Uplus forms alliance to develop 100MW modular data centers

LG Uplus has formed an alliance with GS Engineering & Construction, Xi C&A, Gansam Architects, and D&O CM to develop a standardized 100MW prefabricated modular data center (PMDC) model. This initiative aims to meet the rising demand for Artificial Intelligence Data Centers (AIDC) by reducing construction timelines and ensuring consistent quality through factory-based manufacturing and on-site assembly.

The collaboration focuses on two primary models: a new hyperscale PMDC construction model and a retrofit model designed to convert existing buildings into AI-ready infrastructure. The PMDC approach addresses the high power density and cooling requirements of AI servers more efficiently than traditional construction methods.

Under the agreement, LG Uplus will provide operational standards and technical requirements based on its extensive data center management experience. GS Engineering & Construction will focus on construction optimization and EPC capabilities, while Xi C&A will handle mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) optimization for retrofit models. Gansam Architects will manage standard design, and D&O CM will oversee project and construction management.
