LG Uplus unveils AI-driven Wi-Fi 8 router technology

LG Uplus has unveiled a new technology at the Network X 2026 trade show aimed at increasing the stability and autonomy of home networks. The South Korean telecommunications operator is combining Wi-Fi 8 standards with local artificial intelligence and automated network analysis to improve connectivity.

The proposed system utilizes a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) integrated directly into the router to analyze network data, such as signal strength and transmission quality. This allows the device to detect and potentially correct connection issues—caused by physical obstacles, interference, or high device density—before the user notices a drop in performance.

While Wi-Fi offers convenience for mobile devices, experts note that Ethernet remains superior for tasks requiring maximum speed and reliability, such as large file transfers or gaming updates. The integration of AI into next-generation routers seeks to bridge the gap in reliability between wireless and wired connections.
