Līgatne Nature Trails welcomes rescued fox Lakija
A young fox named Lakija has become a new resident of the Līgatne Nature Trails within Gauja National Park. The fox was rescued during the summer after surviving a traffic accident that resulted in a severe head injury.
Following extensive medical care provided by veterinarian Ingvilda Aumeistere and the association ‘Ežu hospitālis’, Lakija has fully recovered. However, due to the severity of the injuries and the long-term human care required, the fox is unable to survive independently in the wild. Consequently, the Līgatne Nature Trails have been designated as her permanent home.
Lakija is currently acclimating to her new environment and is gradually being introduced to a larger enclosure. Staff at the nature trails have requested that visitors remain quiet and avoid disturbing the fox to ensure she feels secure in her new territory.
