LGBI Airport installs 570m lighting system for low-visibility landings

Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati, Assam, has commissioned a new 570-metre Precision Approach Lighting System (PALS). This upgrade to the airport's airside infrastructure is designed to improve aircraft operations during low-visibility conditions.

The new system extends the existing approach lighting from 180 metres to 570 metres. This expansion allows pilots to identify the runway environment earlier and provides better visual guidance to assist in maintaining alignment with the runway centreline.

The upgrade specifically addresses seasonal weather challenges in the region, such as heavy monsoon rainfall and reduced visibility, which can impact flight continuity. An airport spokesperson stated that the system reinforces a commitment to aviation safety and aims to provide a more reliable travel experience for passengers and airline partners.
