Brasília Pride Parade draws thousands, urges LGBTQ+ voters

The 27th Brasília Pride Parade took place on Sunday, 26, on the Esplanada dos Ministérios in front of the National Congress. The event’s theme, “LGBT, Levante e Vote!”, called on the LGBTQ+ community to vote for candidates who protect their rights. Organiser Richard Alexandre stressed that the parade is both a celebration and a political mobilisation, while coordinator Welton Trindade noted that elected LGBT officials have increased since the parade began in 1998. Designer and performer Havenna Wandelookx, originally from Maranhão and a 16‑year resident of Brasília, took part in the march. Public‑service tents offered nursing care, Police Civil assistance for anti‑LGBTQ+ reports and Public Defender support for social‑name inclusion. Musical acts such as Lorena Simpson, the Banda das Montadas and local DJs performed. Strong sunlight from a local drought highlighted the vivid colours of the crowd, which numbered in the thousands.
