LHBTIQ+ advocates and artists receive recognition in the Netherlands
In the Netherlands, various individuals are receiving recognition and platforming voices within the LHBTIQ+ community.
Rémon Westendorp, a 25-year-old graduate from Buurse, has launched a graphic installation titled ‘Een deel van mij’ (A Part of Me). The project, exhibited in Haaksbergen, aims to provide a voice to LHBTIQ+ individuals living in smaller villages, addressing themes of identity, the fear of rejection, and the importance of self-discovery.
Separately, Ramon Roks has been honored with the municipal Rainbow Award in his hometown of Roosendaal. Roks, a 29-year-old advocate for LHBTIQ+ interests within Dutch churches, received the award following a period of activism. This follows a previous incident where a queer pilgrimage group was denied entry to a chapel in Roosendaal, despite being welcomed in Oudenbosch.
