Lhoumois fire kills three people in Deux-Sèvres

A devastating fire in Lhoumois, Deux-Sèvres, has resulted in the deaths of three people. The blaze began on Tuesday, August 11, with multiple vegetation fires in nearby fields that quickly spread to a forage hangar and a rental home.

Three bodies were recovered from the remains of the house. The victims, believed to be a couple in their late 40s and 50s and their son in his 20s, were found in the debris. Local officials noted that the rapid spread of the fire through hedgerows and the intense heat may have prevented the occupants from noticing the flames.

An investigation has been launched by the Parthenay research brigade, with specialists from the Institut de recherche criminelle de la gendarmerie nationale (IRCGN) deployed to the scene. The mayor of Lhoumois, Jean Pillot, expressed concern regarding the circumstances, noting that the presence of three separate fire outbreaks appears suspicious.
