Li Auto announces expansion into right-hand drive markets

Chinese premium automaker Li Auto has confirmed plans to expand into right-hand drive markets. Chairman and CEO Xiang Li stated during a second-quarter earnings call that the company intends to launch the Li Mega in Hong Kong and Singapore by the end of this year. The company also plans to roll out a right-hand drive version of the Li i6 to complete its international lineup.

Li Auto, founded in 2015, specializes in large SUVs and people movers utilizing electric (EV) or extended-range electric (EREV) powertrains. The Li Mega is a large seven-seat electric people mover featuring a 108kWh battery, a 710km range on the CLTC cycle, and advanced hardware such as rear-wheel steering and steer-by-wire technology.

While the company has seen significant success in China, with 1.8 million cars sold since its launch, founder Li Xiang acknowledged that overseas expansion presents challenges regarding geopolitical environments and market regulations. The company aims to position itself as a premium brand globally, carefully tailoring its approach to specific market dynamics.
