BMW and Li Auto advance electric vehicle strategies
Major automotive manufacturers are advancing their electric vehicle (EV) strategies through significant product milestones and technological innovations.
BMW Group has reached a milestone of two million pure electric vehicles (BEV) delivered since 2013. The company is seeing strong momentum from its Neue Klasse generation, particularly with the BMW iX3, which has seen a 38 percent sales increase in Europe during the second quarter of 2026. New safety features for the Neue Klasse models include an automated door-locking system designed to prevent accidents involving cyclists and pedestrians, powered by a new central computing unit with significantly higher processing capabilities.
In China, Li Auto is preparing to launch the next-generation Li Mega MPV on September 2. CEO Li Xiang emphasized a commitment to original Chinese design and an upgraded interior described as a ‘mobile home’ or ‘living room.’ The update includes enhanced cabin lighting, improved chassis flexibility through rear-wheel steering, and the integration of proprietary M100 chips. This launch comes as Li Auto reports a narrowing of net losses and a shift in its order structure, with pure electric vehicle orders now nearly equal to extended-range models.
