Li Hao-yu returns to Taiwan after record MLB rookie season

Taiwanese baseball player Li Hao-yu, who played for the MLB's Detroit Tigers, has returned to Taiwan following his rookie season. During his season, Li appeared in 114 games, recording a .264 batting average with 10 home runs and 46 RBIs, breaking several previous records held by Taiwanese player Chang Yu-chien.

At a media press conference in Taipei, Li expressed surprise at his rapid ascent to the Major Leagues and credited his coaching staff for their guidance. While satisfied with his offensive performance, he noted a need to improve his defensive mobility and range during the off-season to compete for a spot on the 26-man roster next year.

Li also shared personal reflections on the season, expressing gratitude to fans in Taiwan who watched his games late at night. He recalled a meaningful encounter in San Francisco with a cancer survivor who encouraged him to view every day as a new beginning during a period of poor performance. He emphasized that his primary focus remains on game preparation and physical recovery.
