Li Hongzhong under investigation amid fall of former aides

The investigation follows a series of falls involving officials closely linked to Li during his previous leadership roles in Hubei and Tianjin. Among those recently investigated or sentenced are Zhao Lingyun, former Party Secretary of Central China Normal University and a former top aide to Li in Hubei; Zhang Meng, a former official in the Hubei provincial government; Jin Xiangjun, former Governor of Shanxi, who was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve; and Sun Jianhua, former Deputy Secretary of the Tianjin Municipal Committee, who received a ten-year and six-month prison sentence for bribery.

Observers note that these disciplinary actions target individuals who served as key subordinates or close associates during Li's tenure in Hubei and Tianjin, signaling potential high-level political consequences.
