Li Kaifu says AI programming outpaces human coders, but programmers need not fear replacement

At the WanCe AI Media launch event on July 7, Li Kaifu, founder and CEO of Zero‑One World, said AI programming has surpassed human capabilities over the past two years. He claimed that at many companies "around 90% of the code is now generated by AI, while humans write only the remaining 10%".

Li explained that AI can now rewrite software, redesign workflows and build entire systems, adding that "when AI can program, it also gains the ability to perform countless other tasks". He argued the main issue is not programmers being replaced but AI dramatically expanding productivity, allowing developers to focus on high‑level design, strategy and innovation. Experienced programmers, he said, will remain essential as leaders who guide AI rather than being displaced by it.
