Li Qiang directs landslide rescue operations in Tibet's Jilong County

Chinese Premier Li Qiang traveled to Jilong County in the Tibet Autonomous Region on August 27 to oversee rescue operations and emergency response following a severe landslide at the Jilong Port. The disaster has resulted in significant casualties and missing persons.

Li emphasized the importance of scientific search and rescue plans, instructing officials to exhaust all possibilities to find missing individuals. He also called for the rapid repair of damaged infrastructure, including roads, communications, and power supplies, to ensure rescue channels remain open.

During his visit to resettlement sites, Li stressed the need to guarantee basic living necessities for displaced residents, including food, medical care, and housing. Given the proximity of the disaster to the border, he highlighted the necessity of strengthening foreign-related emergency coordination and communicating with relevant foreign parties to assist in locating missing persons and managing aftermath procedures.

Additionally, Li urged authorities to maintain transparency in information release, strengthen meteorological and geological monitoring to prevent secondary disasters, and ensure the safety of frontline rescue workers.
