Li Qiang emphasizes technology and food security during China grain province tour

Chinese Premier Li Qiang has called for the implementation of all necessary measures to secure the nation's autumn harvest during a three-day inspection tour of the northeastern provinces of Heilongjiang and Jilin. These regions are critical to China's food security, having produced nearly one-fifth of the country's grain output last year.

During his visit to various farms, research institutes, and agricultural companies, Li inspected soybean, corn, and rice crops. He emphasized the importance of the autumn harvest, which typically accounts for approximately three-quarters of China's annual grain production. Li stressed the need for improved field management, stable prices and supplies for agricultural inputs, and stronger policy support to ensure a bumper harvest.

A central component of the government's strategy involves leveraging technology and artificial intelligence to increase crop yields and develop smart agriculture. Li also highlighted the necessity of strengthening water resource management and prevention measures to mitigate the impact of extreme weather events on food production.
