Li Sichuan responds to polls predicting tight New Taipei City mayoral race
Japanese scholar Ogasawara Yukihiko has analyzed the upcoming local elections, identifying New Taipei City as the critical battleground. Ogasawara noted that the race between Kuomintang candidate Li Sichuan and Democratic Progressive Party candidate Su Chiao-hui has become a neck-and-neck contest, shifting from Li's significant lead last year to a narrow margin this year.
In response to these assessments, Li Sichuan stated he would “strive with all his might” to connect with citizens. He emphasized his commitment to visiting all 29 districts in New Taipei City to listen to residents and has already proposed over twenty policy platforms. Li maintained that his campaign focuses on concrete policies and construction plans for the city's future.
Political commentators suggest that the Democratic Progressive Party's strategy involves a coordinated effort across the Taipei-New Taipei region. Analysts observe that Su Chiao-hui's deep roots in New Taipei and strong communication skills are positioned to challenge Li's administrative style, particularly as voters weigh the continuity of previous administrations against the desire for political change.
