Li Xu expelled from CCP for bribery and political opportunism

Li Xu, the former deputy commander of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, has been expelled from the Communist Party and removed from public office. According to a report from the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, Li was accused of political opportunism and associating with so-called ‘political swindlers.’

In addition to political misconduct, the investigation found that Li engaged in superstitious activities, used his public power for personal gain in matters of personnel recruitment and promotions, and accepted massive bribes. His case has drawn attention due to his previous ties to Ma Xingrui, the former Xinjiang Party Secretary who was also expelled from the party in July 2026.

The term ‘political swindlers’ refers to individuals who pose as well-connected experts or associates of high-ranking officials to facilitate illicit influence and grey-area interests. This specific charge has appeared in previous high-profile corruption cases involving officials such as former Justice Minister Fu Zhenghua.
