Lia Istifhama questions legal immunity of Surabaya advocate
Lia Istifhama, a member of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) from East Java, has raised concerns regarding the legal immunity of advocate Muhammad Ruslan. Ruslan was summoned as a witness in a case stemming from a dispute over an auctioned shop house on Jalan Krukah Utara in Surabaya.
The issue was discussed during an audience with the leadership of DPD RI Committee I. The case reportedly originated as a civil dispute involving the possession of an auctioned property, which later escalated into criminal allegations involving claims of physical assault and thuggery. Istifhama emphasized the need to distinguish between civil matters and criminal proceedings, questioning the position of an advocate who previously represented suspects but is now being called as a witness.
