Wonderwall becomes England's unofficial anthem at the 2026 World Cup

After England’s successive victories at the 2026 FIFA World Cup – including wins over Croatia, DR Congo, Mexico and Norway – players and supporters have repeatedly sung Oasis’s 1995 hit “Wonderwall” on the pitch. The chant has turned into a new tradition, with captain Harry Kane describing it as one of his favorite moments in an England shirt.

Frontman Liam Gallagher posted on X, “cmon England, cmon Wonderwall,” and later wrote, “We’re winning this WC I don’t know how don’t care … you gotta make it happen.” He added that he is ready to perform the song live if England reaches the final. Brother Noel Gallagher said the track “belongs to the people,” endorsing its status as an unofficial team anthem.

Streaming data show a sharp rise in the song’s popularity: Spotify recorded a 51 % increase in listeners after the Norway win and a 278 % spike around the match, while UK chart positions and overall streams more than doubled. The surge reflects the song’s adoption as a rallying cry for English fans throughout the tournament.
