Liam Hicks traded to Tampa Bay Rays as Marlins acquire three prospects

Catcher Liam Hicks, a Canadian who posted a .282 average with 14 home runs and 62 RBIs for the Miami Marlins, was dealt to the Tampa Bay Rays at the MLB trade deadline. Miami received infielder Brayden Taylor, shortstop Adrian Santana and right‑handed pitcher Jacob Kisting in return. At the time of the trade the Marlins were 1.5 games behind the NL wild‑card and riding a three‑game winning streak.

The deadline also saw other Canadian players move: left‑hander Adam Macko was sent from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Texas Rangers, and catcher Bo Naylor was acquired by the Milwaukee Brewers from the Cleveland Guardians. Hicks’ on‑base skills were highlighted by a .363 OBP, the only MLB player with more walks (40) than strikeouts (39) that season. The Marlins retain their top starters—Sandy Alcantara, Eury Perez and Max Meyer—and remain in contention for a postseason berth.
