Liam Lawson shifts F1 focus away from Red Bull main team

Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson has stated that his career ambitions are no longer exclusively tied to joining the Red Bull Racing main team. This shift in mindset follows a brief stint at the start of 2025, where he was promoted from Racing Bulls to Red Bull Racing to drive alongside Max Verstappen, only to be returned to Racing Bulls after two rounds in a swap with Yuki Tsunoda.

Lawson, 24, noted that while his goal remains to compete at the front of the grid and win races, he is no longer focused on a specific pathway or team to achieve that success. He currently sits ninth in the drivers' championship with 43 points after eleven rounds, having secured points in eight different race weekends and achieving career-best sixth-place finishes in Monaco and Silverstone.
