Liam Payne's cousin discusses singer's struggles with fame

Ross Harris, the cousin of the late singer Liam Payne, has spoken about the personal struggles his relative faced prior to his death in October 2024. Speaking to Good Morning Britain, Harris stated that despite his global stardom, Payne “didn’t feel very loved” and lacked personal connections that went beyond his public persona.

Harris highlighted the disconnect between being a child star and transitioning into adulthood, noting that Payne essentially remained a “kid in this industry” because he was denied a normal upbringing outside of the fame system. He expressed a desire to have encouraged acquaintances to reach out to Payne more frequently to ensure he felt supported.

Reflecting on the music industry, Harris raised concerns regarding safeguarding and accountability, suggesting that the industry often fails to protect young people whose images are used for profit. Payne, a former member of One Direction, died at age 31 following a fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
