Liam Rushe retires from Dublin inter-county hurling

Liam Rushe has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling, ending a distinguished career with Dublin. The 36-year-old veteran made the announcement while working as a pundit for TG4 during the Offaly hurling final.

Rushe’s career included two All-Star awards and a historic Leinster title. He was named Young Hurler of the Year in 2011 and played a central role in Dublin’s Leinster championship breakthrough in 2013. After previously stepping away from the inter-county scene in 2022, Rushe made an unexpected return to the Dublin panel this season under manager Niall Ó Ceallacháin.

During his recent comeback, Rushe featured in the Leinster final against Galway, though an injury sustained during that match prevented him from participating in Dublin’s subsequent All-Ireland quarter-final against Clare. His departure leaves a vacancy in the Dublin squad, particularly in defensive and midfield roles where he was noted for his versatility, athleticism, and leadership.
