Lian Yunzhi sets women's Rubik's Cube world record

Lian Yunzhi, a six-year-old girl from Chengdu, China, has set a new women's world record for the fastest average 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube solve. During a World Cube Association sanctioned competition in Guangzhou on September 16, she achieved an average time of 4.27 seconds.

This performance improved upon her own previous record of 4.52 seconds, which she set earlier this month in Wuhan. Lian is the first woman to achieve an average time of less than 4.5 seconds. In individual attempts, she has recorded times as low as 3.54 seconds.

Lian began practicing with the puzzle at age four. Her mother, Lin Yangxi, noted that while the child initially participated in various extracurricular activities like dance and gymnastics, they decided to invest more heavily in speedcubing due to her significant potential. Lian currently trains for two to three hours daily and has mastered approximately 1,300 algorithms to solve the cube.
