Liane Moriarty discusses ‘Big Little Lies’ sequel and sibling influence
Author Liane Moriarty is preparing to release ‘Big Little Truths’, a sequel to her bestselling novel ‘Big Little Lies’ set ten years after the original events. Moriarty noted that writing the sequel presented unique challenges, as the global success of the HBO television adaptation influenced her creative process. She expressed that the performances of actors such as Laura Dern and Meryl Streep made it difficult to write the new story without accounting for the versions of the characters established on screen.
In a discussion regarding her career, Moriarty also credited her sister, Jaclyn Moriarty, for her own literary success. Although Liane is the eldest, Jaclyn was the first sibling to secure a publishing deal. Liane described how Jaclyn’s early success as a novelist served as a catalyst that eventually prompted her to begin writing her own stories.
