Liberal Democratic Party condemns comments justifying violence against women

The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has issued a strong condemnation following remarks made by Petar Bogojoski, leader of Macedonian Concept and a government coalition partner, during a televised debate. Bogojoski reportedly justified violence by men against women, a stance the LDP described as a medieval concept of “male supervision.”

LDP leader Monika Zajkova characterized the comments as a direct attack on the dignity, freedom, and safety of women in North Macedonia. She questioned whether such views represent the official stance of the government and suggested that chauvinistic ideologies within the coalition may be responsible for blocking legislation regarding electronic bracelets for domestic violence offenders.

The party also raised concerns regarding Bogojoski’s role as a professor at the “General Mihailo Apostolski” Military Academy. The LDP has called for urgent responses from the Ministry of Defense and the Military Academy to clarify how future officers are being trained. Zajkova urged the government to immediately pass the law for electronic monitoring of domestic violence perpetrators.
