Liberal Democratic Party demands ban on dual citizenship for officials
The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is calling for the immediate passage of legislation to prohibit dual citizenship for members of parliament and other high-ranking state officials in North Macedonia. The party criticized the delay in implementing the law, noting that while celebrations for the 35th anniversary of independence were held, the regulatory changes remain stalled in the Assembly.
LDP President and MP Monika Zajkova has publicly released a notarized act to prove she holds only Macedonian citizenship, challenging her colleagues to do the same. The LDP is urging the VMRO-DPMNE party, which proposed the law, to stop delaying its adoption. The party demands that the restrictions apply to all ministers, directors, public prosecutors, and judges, suggesting that any official holding dual citizenship should either renounce the second nationality or resign from their position.
