Liberal Democrats propose economic partnership with EU
Liberal Democrat treasury spokesperson Daisy Cooper is set to present an economic plan aimed at reversing the damage caused by Brexit by reintegrating the United Kingdom into Europe. Speaking at the party conference in Brighton, Cooper intends to propose a growth and defence partnership with the European Union.
The proposal includes striking new deals regarding the single market, a customs union, and defence to increase national prosperity and security. Cooper also aims to address issues affecting the UK startup ecosystem, noting that many domestic companies leave the country to scale up due to barriers in investment, innovation, and skills.
Cooper criticized the current economic system as a ‘computer says no’ environment that holds back British potential and prevents research from becoming domestic products. Additionally, she challenged the economic credibility of the Conservative and Reform UK parties, claiming they lack credible costings for their plans.
