Liberal MP Salma Zahid targeted in suspected arson in Toronto

Liberal MP Salma Zahid, representing Scarborough Centre-Don Valley East, was the target of a suspected arson at her personal residence in Toronto. The incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. on Thursday, when an unidentified individual set fire to Zahid’s car and a neighbor’s vehicle.

Toronto police reported that three vehicles were damaged in the blaze, though no injuries were reported. Zahid and her family were at home during the incident; her son and neighbors alerted emergency services after noticing the fire. While the vehicles were destroyed, Zahid confirmed there was no damage to her home and that her family is safe.

Prime Minister Mark Carney condemned the incident, describing it as a “cowardly act of violence and intimidation” that has no place in Canada. Toronto police are treating the matter as a suspected arson and stated that no suspect information is currently available. Zahid noted that she will await the results of the investigation and remains committed to her work despite the attack.
