Liberal Party faces candidate disqualifications in Espírito Santo

The Regional Electoral Court of Espírito Santo (TRE-ES) has rejected the candidacy of Vitória councilman Armandinho Fontoura for state deputy, marking a significant setback for the Liberal Party (PL) in the region.

The Public Electoral Ministry (MPE) requested the disqualification following Fontoura's conviction for ideological falsehood. According to the sentence, Fontoura used the pseudonym ‘Dra. Laura’ on WhatsApp to conduct attacks against an attorney. Under Complementary Law 219/2025, such convictions by a collegiate body can result in eight years of ineligibility.

Additionally, Gilvan da Federal, who is seeking reelection to the Chamber of Deputies, faces potential disqualification pending a final judgment of his registration. The Liberal Party faces a deadline of Monday, September 14, to substitute candidates to avoid the risk of having votes annulled if these candidates are ultimately deemed ineligible.
