Liberal Party leadership faces pressure in Mato Grosso

Ananias Filho, the state president of the Liberal Party (PL) in Mato Grosso, has addressed internal pressure regarding his leadership following the defeat of Wellington Fagundes in the state government race. Local leaders, including businessman Odilio Balbinotti and Mayor Cláudio Ferreira, have advocated for changes in the party's direction.

Filho stated he is calm regarding the criticism and is willing to listen to party members discussing his tenure. He denied traveling to Brasília to negotiate his position, clarifying that his meetings with national president Valdemar Costa Neto were to present Mato Grosso's electoral results. He noted that despite the gubernatorial loss, the party secured three seats in the Chamber of Deputies, one senator, and four seats in the Legislative Assembly.

Filho also admitted that a lack of support from certain municipal mayors, who backed rival candidates, likely contributed to the unfavorable election outcome.
