Liberalerna and Kristdemokraterna align on healthcare and education reforms

The Swedish political parties Liberalerna and Kristdemokraterna have reached an agreement to support each other's calls for increased state involvement in key sectors. Kristdemokraterna advocates for the nationalization of healthcare, moving responsibility from regional authorities to the state, while Liberalerna seeks to nationalize the school system.

This shift follows dissatisfaction with the current management of these sectors. Critics note that while the state already sets many frameworks through agencies like the Swedish Schools Inspectorate and the National Board of Health and Welfare, the proposed reforms would shift the actual execution and local decision-making—such as the placement of hospitals and schools—to state-run entities.

In a separate development regarding cultural policy, both parties have also signaled a reversal on funding for study associations (folkbildning). After a period of budget cuts totaling 500 million SEK, Liberalerna and Kristdemokraterna now intend to increase financial support for these associations during the next mandate period to address issues such as the shortage of rehearsal spaces.
