Liberec and Jablonec nad Nisou manage significant municipal debt and infrastructure projects

Municipalities in the Liberec Region are managing varying levels of debt and infrastructure projects. Liberec, the fifth largest city in the Czech Republic, has reduced its debt to 1.05 billion CZK despite massive investments, such as an 800 million CZK swimming pool reconstruction. However, the city carries a high debt per capita of 10,586 CZK, the highest among regional district towns. In contrast, Česká Lípa maintains no debt, funding its large-scale projects from savings and income.

Jablonec nad Nisou is entering a period of significant investment. While its per capita debt was 1,024 CZK at the end of last year, the city has recently taken out 550 million CZK in loans to fund projects, including a 213 million CZK nursery school and a 470 million CZK transport terminal.

In Liberec, the revitalization of the reservoir surroundings has faced delays. The section between the dam and the beach, a project costing 80 million CZK, is now expected to open in the second half of September rather than August. The delay was caused by the need to rectify defects from a previous 500 million CZK modernization of the dam by Povodí Labe.
