Liberec Region demands environmental review for massive Ralsko AI data center

The Liberec Region and the town of Ralsko are demanding a full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for a proposed massive artificial intelligence data center in the Kuřívody industrial zone. The project, spearheaded by Ralsko AI Campus s. r. o., involves constructing six data blocks on approximately 6.5 hectares of land.

The facility is expected to have a reserved power capacity of 86 megawatts, a level of consumption comparable to a major regional city. To manage potential power outages, the plan includes 48 backup diesel generators with a total capacity of 115.3 megawatts and fuel tanks holding roughly 245 tons of diesel.

Regional Governor Martin Půta emphasized the need for thorough scrutiny regarding water consumption for cooling, waste heat management, the operation of diesel generators, and the impact on local greenery. Biological surveys have indicated that the site, located in a former military area, holds significant natural value, including 52 bird species—seven of which are specially protected—as well as protected reptiles and invertebrates. The construction would also affect approximately 5,300 square meters of shrubland and woodland.
