Liberec Region: Martin Půta wins Senate seat and new land-use rules proposed

Martin Půta has won the second round of the Senate elections for the Českolipsko region, marking his transition from the position of Liberec Region Governor to the upper chamber of Parliament.

In related regional developments, the Liberec Region is proposing changes to its strategic territorial development principles. Deputy Governor Jiří Klápště stated that the goal is to prevent the construction of new logistics or industrial warehouses along the planned I/35 road through the Czech Paradise area. The administration aims to protect the unique landscape from large-scale industrial development that often follows new infrastructure projects.

The I/35 road project, intended to connect Jičín and Turnov, remains under discussion and faces potential construction delays, with estimates suggesting work may not begin until 2033. While the route itself is not currently being changed, the regional government seeks to establish clearer rules for land use in the surrounding areas.
