Liberec to host Crystal Valley Week featuring Brazilian Panará tribe

The fifth edition of Crystal Valley Week will take place in Liberec, Czech Republic, from August 24 to 29, 2026. The festival, held under the UNESCO motto ‘Connecting Cultures’, features over 80 events including exhibitions, workshops, and live demonstrations of glassmaking and jewelry design across 36 locations.

A central theme of this year's festival is the cultural connection between Czech glass production and the Panará indigenous people of the Brazilian Amazon. For generations, the Panará have used Czech glass beads to create traditional jewelry and ritual clothing, valuing them as highly as gemstones.

Representatives from the Panará tribe will travel to Liberec to demonstrate their jewelry-making skills and share their culture through traditional dance, song, and music. The festival aims to showcase the contemporary relevance of Czech glassmaking, highlighting how local products like beads have traveled from the Jizera Mountains to diverse cultures worldwide.
