Liberia advances trade, water, and energy development initiatives

Liberia is advancing several national development and stability initiatives. The government has signed a Host Country Agreement to host the 4th General Assembly of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSPAL) from December 9-11, 2026. The assembly will focus on unleashing intra-African trade and investment through legislative cooperation.

In the infrastructure and resource sectors, the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation, in partnership with the African Union Commission, recently concluded a workshop to develop a Climate-Resilient Water Investment Plan to address challenges like coastal erosion and flooding. Additionally, a dedicated office has opened for the team designing Liberia’s second Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact, which aims to fund power transmission lines and reform mining laws by December 2027.

Regarding energy security, the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) has assured the public of sufficient petroleum stocks. This follows concerns regarding international oil market disruptions and rising crude prices caused by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
