Liberia announces healthcare, agriculture, and sports development initiatives

The Government of Liberia has announced several developmental initiatives across multiple sectors aimed at modernizing public services and driving national growth.

In healthcare, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung confirmed the mobilization of approximately US$2 million to construct the nation’s first comprehensive cancer diagnostic and treatment center. The project will focus on acquiring specialized medical equipment and oncology expertise while adhering to international safety standards.

In agriculture, a mechanization initiative is underway, with the first batch of machinery already in the country. The government plans to establish 15 regional service centers to support farmers, with the final delivery of equipment expected by late September.

Regarding sports, the government has increased financial incentives for the national football team to improve performance in upcoming international qualifiers. Appearance fees have risen from US$1,000 to US$2,500, and win bonuses have increased from US$1,000 to US$4,500.

On the diplomatic front, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has engaged with United States officials in Washington, D.C. These discussions centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, power generation, foreign investment, and democratic governance.
