Liberia calls for civilian protection and aid access in Ukraine
Liberia has called for increased international action to protect civilians and ensure unhindered humanitarian access during the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Speaking at the 10,237th meeting of the United Nations Security Council, Liberia’s Political Coordinator, Prutus Sackie, emphasized that the protection of innocent lives must be an immediate priority regardless of ongoing diplomatic negotiations.
Liberia’s statement urged full compliance with international humanitarian law, specifically demanding an end to attacks on civilians and civilian objects. The appeal highlighted the need to protect essential infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and humanitarian personnel, to maintain community life and provide critical medical and emergency assistance to those in need.
