Liberia expands strategic ties with Egypt and Morocco

Liberia is expanding its strategic partnerships with Egypt and Morocco to bolster its diplomatic influence and military capabilities.

In a recent diplomatic development, Liberia and Egypt have moved to transition their long-standing relationship into a strategic partnership focused on trade, development, and capacity-building. Foreign Ministers Sara Beysolow Nyanti and Badr Abdelatty discussed coordinating positions on Sudan and African interests at the United Nations Security Council, particularly as Liberia prepares to serve as a non-permanent member of the Council for the 2026–2027 term.

Simultaneously, Liberia is strengthening its military ties with Morocco. Following a visit by Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) Chief of Staff Major General Davidson F. Forleh, the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces committed to supporting the establishment and operationalization of a Liberian Air Wing. This cooperation includes personnel training, technical assistance, and commando training for AFL elements, aimed at translating previous military cooperation agreements into practical defense capabilities.
