Liberia faces calls for institutional resilience amid economic and political debates

Liberian officials and political figures are debating the nation's economic resilience and governance standards. Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan has called for Liberia to strengthen its institutions and economic self-reliance to better withstand global crises, such as supply chain disruptions, rising commodity prices, and declining international development assistance.

Ngafuan emphasized that resilience must be built through infrastructure, healthcare, and economic diversification before crises occur. Meanwhile, former Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah has used the ongoing debate regarding the General Auditing Commission's reports to challenge the current Unity Party administration. Tweah argued that audit classifications, such as a 'Qualified Opinion,' should not be viewed as sole indicators of improved governance, suggesting that the government's future success depends more on job creation and the rule of law.
