Liberia Maritime Authority sends 22 scholars to Ghana for maritime studies

The Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) has announced that 22 Liberian scholarship recipients have departed for the Regional Maritime University (RMU) in Accra, Ghana. The students will undergo professional training and academic studies focused on maritime-related fields, including shipping, seafaring, port operations, safety, and administration.

This initiative aims to address a national gap in specialized maritime expertise and strengthen Liberia’s domestic human capital. By investing in these scholars, LiMA intends to develop a highly skilled workforce capable of managing the country’s significant maritime presence and registry. The beneficiaries were selected through a vetting process conducted in collaboration with the Liberia office of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC).

Joel Oscar Dickerson, LiMA’s Director of Training, stated that the program is an investment in preparing future leaders for Liberia’s maritime ecosystem. The program's success is tied to the graduates returning to Liberia to apply their technical skills to the advancement of the national maritime sector.
