Liberia national football team names squad for AFCON qualifiers

Liberia national team coach Mohammed Adil Erradi has announced a 24-man squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Rwanda and Mali. The squad features the return of several players, including Sylvanus Nimely, who returns after nearly five years, as well as Mohammed Sangare, goalkeeper Tommy Songo, and Mohammed Kamara. Additionally, Franklin Nyenetue has received his first call-up to the national team.

In a separate effort to bolster the national team, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. has called for the creation of a sustainable system to develop Liberian football talent. During a fundraising event in Monrovia, the President announced that the government will increase appearance fees and winning bonuses for players from US$1,000 to US$2,500. The event, which aimed to raise US$10 million, secured just over US$3 million. Furthermore, Bea Mountain Mining Corporation has committed to constructing two football academies to support grassroots development.
