Liberia police officials face conflicting drug escort allegations

Conflicting accounts have emerged regarding allegations that a senior police official ordered the escort of a drug shipment in Liberia. A statement attributed to Wadell Kwarbo, the detained former chief of the Liberia National Police Highway Patrol Division, claims that Inspector General Gregory O. W. Coleman instructed him to use his patrol vehicle to escort a van containing drugs.

The statement attributed to Kwarbo suggested that his telephone records and written statements should be subpoenaed to verify the claim. However, Kwarbo’s family has issued a statement categorically dissociating him from these allegations. His wife, Bendu Kwarbo, stated that her husband firmly rejects the claims and maintains that he never made such a statement, noting that neither the family nor his lawyers authorized any such accusations against the Inspector General.
