Liberia seizes record $370 million cocaine haul

Liberian security forces raided a suspected drug‑storage warehouse in Duazon, about 20 km east of Monrovia, and seized what officials say is the largest cocaine bust in the country’s history. Sealed suitcases and boxes were loaded onto police trucks and forensic tests confirmed the substance as high‑purity cocaine with an estimated street value exceeding $370 million. The operation resulted in the arrest of two foreign nationals – one holding Colombian and Spanish passports and another with a Serbian passport – and several Liberian suspects.

Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah described the seizure as evidence of the government’s determination to prevent Liberia from becoming a trans‑national trafficking hub. Police chief Gregory Coleman called the haul “the biggest drug bust in Liberia’s recent years.” The raid follows earlier interceptions, including a $19 million cocaine shipment seized at Roberts International Airport in July and an earlier airport case involving 237 kg of cocaine. Vice‑President Jeremiah Koung warned that anyone involved will face the full weight of the law.
