Liberia Revenue Authority initiates code review and customs training

The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) has launched two major initiatives aimed at modernizing the nation’s fiscal and customs administration.

In Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, the LRA has commenced a five-day technical review of the Liberia Revenue Code. Led by the Policy, Statistics and Strategic Planning Division, technical experts are examining existing provisions to ensure the code remains responsive to current economic and business environments. Proposed amendments resulting from this review will be submitted to the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning for stakeholder consultation before being forwarded to the National Legislature.

Simultaneously, the LRA Customs Department has initiated the second phase of a weeklong refresher training program in Ganta, Nimba County. The training focuses on strengthening the technical capacity of over 30 Customs officers in critical areas such as Customs valuation, Harmonized System (HS) tariff classification, and rules of origin. These efforts are intended to improve border management, facilitate legitimate trade, and support domestic revenue mobilization, particularly as Liberia engages with regional trade arrangements like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
