Liberia seizes $317 million cocaine shipment bound for Europe

Liberian police in the town of Duazon, east of Monrovia, seized 3,971 kg of cocaine valued at about $317 million, one of the largest drug busts in the country's history. Inspector General Gregory Coleman said two suspects were arrested – one holding Spanish and Colombian passports and another with a Serbian passport – and the drugs were stored in cardboard boxes and suitcases marked “Coco” and “Poseidon”.

The seizure follows a previous capture of 237.6 kg of cocaine at Roberts International Airport that originated in Sierra Leone and was destined for Britain, a haul linked to Dutch cocaine kingpin Jos Leijdekkers. Authorities said the recent bust illustrates the growing use of West Africa as a transit hub for large‑scale cocaine shipments to Europe.
