Liberia signs US$60 million deal to revive coffee industry

Liberia has signed a US$60 million implementation agreement to revive its coffee industry through the Liberia Coffee Prosperity Partnership. The 20-year initiative, spanning from 2026 to 2045, is a collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and JR Farms Group Inc. aimed at transforming production across seven counties: Bomi, Bong, Lofa, Nimba, Grand Gedeh, Maryland, and Grand Cape Mount.

The program intends to support nearly 200,000 smallholder farmers by distributing improved seedlings, establishing nurseries, providing training, and enhancing processing and market access. A primary focus is the promotion of Liberica coffee alongside Robusta and Arabica varieties.

In related agricultural developments, the Ministry of Agriculture is preparing to host the 2026 National Agriculture Fair in Lofa County. Stakeholders recently met in Lofa to discuss logistics, infrastructure, and collaboration to ensure the event successfully showcases Liberian agricultural innovations and facilitates market access for local producers.
