Liberia Telecommunications Authority reviews draft infrastructure regulations
The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has launched a public consultation to review draft regulations governing the deployment, sharing, management, and decommissioning of telecommunications infrastructure.
During a meeting at the RLJ Resort in Paynesville, mobile network operators, internet service providers, and other industry stakeholders examined the proposed framework. The regulations aim to promote infrastructure sharing, reduce duplication, and align Liberia’s telecommunications sector with International Telecommunication Union (ITU) recommendations and international best practices. The framework also intends to address environmental, aviation, public health, and safety concerns.
Licensing and Regulation Commissioner Ben A. Fofana emphasized that stakeholder participation is essential to ensure the regulations are responsive to industry realities. Government and Consumer Affairs Commissioner Patrick Honnah also urged providers to identify unclear provisions to ensure the final rules protect consumer interests and serve the public good. The LTA noted that feedback gathered will be used to refine the draft before it is finalized.
