Liberia Wheelchair Basketball Federation seeks funding for Egypt and Thailand trips

The Liberia National Wheelchair Basketball Federation (LNWBF) has issued an urgent appeal to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. for financial assistance to fund upcoming international competitions.

The federation is seeking budget approval to enable the national men’s and women’s 3x3 teams to compete in the 2026 IWBF 3x3 World Cup in Cairo, Egypt, scheduled for November 23–29. Additionally, the federation aims to send representatives to a high-performance and capacity-building camp in Suphanburi, Thailand, from November 8–21.

Board Chair Florence Mamusu Thorneh stated that the requested funds would cover international airfare, accommodation, meals, registration fees, and sports equipment. The federation warned that a lack of funding could result in missed opportunities for the athletes and potential financial penalties or suspension from international governing bodies.
