Liberia drug probe sparks political tension after former VP charged
Liberia is facing intense political tension following a massive drug investigation involving the seizure of over 4,000 kilograms of suspected cocaine, valued at approximately US$336 million. The investigation has led to the questioning and charging of former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor with money laundering and drug trafficking.
The Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) has condemned the charges, labeling them “bogus” and accusing the government of political persecution and the weaponization of the justice system.
